twiddling my thumbs here in savannah, ga - i'm guessing the closest chipshows to here are mainly in atlanta?
moving here late october was a BIG mistake musically, the majority treats chipmusic like some kind of alien noise incomparable to their usual heavily-autotuned idiot singing about something they don't care about at 150 dB.

So I know this is one that a lot of people can relate to.
You have some music out. You are developing a following (to some extent) and are starting to book more and more shows.
Maybe you have found one particular venue that you really shine at, and are fortunate to get a few shows there now and again.
More often than not, however, you end up with shows where you are booked with conflicting archetypes. (in my case hardcore/punk bands).
So that awesome set you slaved on falls flat to a bunch of disinterested concert goers there to see something different.

How do the rest of you approach this? I've found a couple of electronic-based groups here that are fun to play with, and a club that lets me play once a week or so. But my typical show is to an uninterested or generally confused crowd.

Being the only chip act in town is both a blessing and curse at times.

so what kind of musical background/experience does chipmusic have?

i personally have none other than my recent workings in trackers, but i'd expect most people to have a lot more (at the very least highschool band/orchestra, comp/music theory, etc.)

Finding chiptune groups, artists and 8bit djs (especially amateurs;)) here in London is like finding really rare mushrooms in the big forest or what? I have been reseraching the scene for a while, found many artists but it feels like there are loads of "hidden" talents\amateurs\fans\whoever would like to join but don't know how to start or continue.. So there will be an opportunity as I'm seriously looking for anyone who would like to share their chiptune music collection\tunes on the party we are planning to do in  the very near future.
..you know just for fun! No budget...but we need to start somehow to maintain the scene which seems to be not active at the moment.

SO you are very welcome to add sugestions\ideas for whatever you feel will be interesting to do (starting from the name of the event, artists links, venue suggestions and finishing with decorations, other 8bit\media\hardware punk related fun stuff, collaborating etc). You know i'm new to the scene and need help and knowledge of local people.

so, here's the deal...

we send out a LOT of packages, to about everywhere in the world (we are missing a lot of africa, a little of asia (in the middle east mostly, and central Asia), and Lichtenstein (got Luxembourg today, and Andorra last month!!!)).  Oh, and island nations...  But, for the most part, the rest of the world is covered...  many on a daily basis (US and Western Europe for sure).

Anyways, with that being said.  We are already putting in some people's promotional items in our packages.  If you've gotten any stickers, plastics, business cards, etc with your orders, those things are the result of us giving out people's things.

We've been told its helped them get some attention, and thats exactly what we all want...

so, if you've got stickers, event flyers, promotional items, business cards, etc, and want us to drop them in with packages we send out, just send your things our way!

Just, PLEASE don't send us very heavy things, as little things don't increase our shipping costs but heavy things will.  Also, don't send us anything that we can't reasonable mail out, or legally mail out (no pr0n in your artwork, food items, unsafe things, things that can be considered weapons). 

You get the idea...

Essentially, if you want people to hear about you, your even, your album, or whatever, feel free to use us as a distributor of that information! 

If you have music you want us to send out, we'd prefer 3" cds (we've gotten e-mails about this, for sending out promotional discs).

I recently downloaded this samplepack, and I want to convert them all to raw audio files to play around with on ProTracker.
I thought I could use Audacity, but that would take me forever.

Can anybody direct me to a good script/program to batch convert WAV files to 10025kHz signed/unsigned 8bit PCM raw audio? (Linux or Windows). Google just gives me those shifty "FREE AUDIO CONVERT 4 U!!!" results which don't give me the control I want.

I considered that if I'd ever release commercially, I'd need to consider the tools I'm using in the release. Then I thought it would be a hassle to go to all those pages and check the rights.

Then I thought about all the other beginners in my situation. I thought maybe we could put together a single thread with a list of most of the popular tools used for chipmusic, and put what you are and are not allowed to do next to them, in simple terms. Something like: "LSDJ: commercial software, attribution is not necessary but appreciated." Not just software, but samples and things of the sort. I think it could help a lot of people.

I'm busy right now as I make this thread, but I'll come around later and edit the first post to add some of the ones I use. If you guys wanna help out, you could post the tools you use, and what you are and are not allowed to do with them here. I mean, is this even a good idea or...?

I'm just curious if there is much of a chip scene around the San Diego, CA area? I'm still rather new here and as far as I can tell there are at least 2 other modders in the area but not sure about the music scene. I mean, I love cruising the forums and traversing the red tape of the internet to find information on modding and music what have you but, I'd like to meet some individuals or hit up some shows if possible. Would just be nicer to talk in person with someone that does this stuff instead of getting some of the cold shoulders or dead threads I seem to get/come across when I have questions. Anyway, if anyone knows of things around here I'd love to hear about them.

Dendy Chronicles is a web series that tells story of unlicensed NES clones, known as Dendy, in Russia in 1990s and about games for it.

Kinaman is a 23 years old russian guy and a retro gamer. He started to make retro video games reviews just recently, and already gained some local popularity. Some people call him 'russian video game nerd' and make related jokes, well, he is for sure. What makes him different from other local VG reviewers is the things he is talking about. Instead of just swearing all the time, he reminds us how crazy early console gaming experience was in Russia in the past. Major reason why I like to watch reviews of popular english-speaking VG reviewers is that they show me sort of an alternative reality, because here things were very different. I think it could be interesting for people outside of Russia to see an alternative reality too, that's why I decided to make english subtitles for Kinaman's videos.

First three episodes are dedicated to all the games about Mario that were released for Dendy. There are a bit more games than you could expect.

How to use subtitles in YouTube player:

You can enable them with the CC button at the bottom right, or, in case of the embed player, with the triangle button at the bottom right and then with CC button in the pop-up menu.

To make subtitles background opaque that makes them easier to read, press B button on the keyboard. You also can change font size with +/- button, and there are other settings available under the CC button.
